Parade

Volunteers supporting the Parade Committee will help manage one of Glen Ellyn’s most beloved traditions. Tasks include kicking off outreach to past parade participants, recruiting exciting new entries, and assisting with the planning and layout of the staging area. Volunteers will also help organize the final parade lineup to ensure the event flows smoothly and safely. Additional responsibilities include coordinating logistical needs such as ordering porta-potties for parade participants and spectators.

Fireworks

Fireworks volunteers will assist with the logistics behind Glen Ellyn’s signature 4th of July finale. This includes working closely with the fireworks vendor, to ensure all necessary contracts are executed. Volunteers will also coordinate with the committee treasurer regarding insurance and payment requirements tied to the show. This behind-the-scenes role plays a critical part in bringing a safe, spectacular fireworks display to the community.

Ticketing / Boat Dock

Volunteers on the Ticketing and Boat Dock team help manage access and seating for the fireworks viewing area. Responsibilities include overseeing ticket sales, setting up seating for attendees, and assisting with guest entry management on the day of the event. The team will also handle the ordering of approximately 600 chairs to accommodate spectators. This is an excellent opportunity for volunteers who enjoy event operations and guest interaction.

Sponsorship

The Sponsorship Committee relies on volunteers to help secure the financial support that makes the celebration possible. Volunteers will reach out to long-time sponsors to confirm their continued participation and also help identify and approach new sponsors interested in supporting this milestone year. This role is perfect for individuals comfortable building relationships with local businesses and community partners.

Volunteer Coordination

This team helps recruit, organize, and support the volunteers needed to make the 4th of July celebration a success. Tasks include creating and managing Sign-Up Genius pages, conducting outreach to recruit additional volunteers, and coordinating with the school district to arrange banner carriers for the parade. Before the event, volunteers in this area will also help host a briefing meeting to ensure all participants understand their roles and responsibilities.

Food Trucks

Food Truck volunteers assist with bringing delicious dining options to the celebration. This includes coordinating contracts with food truck operators and helping to organize the “Picnic in the Park” atmosphere that many residents look forward to each year. Volunteers interested in hospitality or vendor coordination will excel in this role.

Parade Banners

The Parade Banner team ensures that all parade banners are ready, organized, and properly displayed on the day of the event. Volunteers will help manage banner orders, coordinate the sorting and preparation of banners, and ensure poles and carriers are assigned and ready. This role is ideal for detail-oriented volunteers who enjoy organizing materials and supporting parade logistics.

Organization Liaison

Volunteers serving as Organization Liaisons act as connectors between the 4th of July Committee and key community partners. This includes working with the Glen Ellyn Police Department and Park District to coordinate event needs and ensure smooth operations. Volunteers will also assist with the documentation required for the Village’s Special Event Permit process, working closely with the Village of Glen Ellyn Administration and Communications Coordinator. This role is essential to maintaining strong communication and seamless event planning across all participating agencies.
